The term "doppelgänger" is often used to describe someone that looks just like (or very similar to) another person. But there are more mysterious and sinister myths to this term than the word suggests.
A real Doppelganger is a ghost-like appearance that appears in place or situation that wouldn't otherwise be possible. Many people have seen this image of themselves, both in real life and in visions. At times, a person may be seen walking through a room, when in reality, they're several miles away at the time. The other most common sightings occur when the image of a person appears to walk past an area twice in a row - moving in the same direction, where it would be impossible for a person to have returned there fast enough. Honestly, learning that in my study gave me a stream of chills run down my body!
I myself have come across instances where; when passing by my room on my way to the hall, I've seen my mom seated in my room facing the window, while when I get to the hall, I find her sitting there with everyone else. Insane...I KNOW!
So what ARE Doppelgangers? No one is certain. What I've learned from my research is, a lot of the scientists believe that the phenomenon occurs based on injuries or stimulation to certain parts of the brain which causes errors in spatial reasoning. BUT, that's just the scientific side to it. The stories of encounters of doppelgangers are so varied that its difficult to even classify this phenomenon as a "creature", except for the fact that most of the sightings seem to be intensely spiritual yet disconnected to the original person. Pretty confusing right? Read along, I'll break it down for you.
Doppelgangers are often seen as bad signs. In most of the stories I've studied, the Doppelganger shows up during or soon after tragic events. I'll share a similar case with you for easy understanding. In the case of the Vice-Admiral Sir George Tryon, multiple guests at a party at his home spotted him simply standing and staring silently, on the same night that he died at the sea.
Other bad signs may come in the form of a warning. Such as in the case of the former US President Abraham Lincoln, who saw his twin ghost-like image in the mirror when he was lying down across the room. What he saw each time was an image of himself displaced by a second ghost-like appearance. His wife at the time assumed it meant that he would be elected to a second term, but not live through the end of it. Guess what!? She was right...
This forced me into believing that there are spirits that mimic the appearance of a person. I also believe, these spirits have bad intentions and wish to harm the person they are mimicking, be it physically, emotionally, or by ruining their reputation. If this is the case, it wouldn't be wrong to assume that the offending spirit is another form of a Demon.
In any case, don't misjudge this creature to represent the actual person or their actual spirit. The appearance is of another origin entirely. It merely looks like the person it is mimicking but it is not actually that person.
We may never end up knowing what exactly these images are, where they come from, or what they want. But there are too many sightings to disregard them. Whatever the creature or spirit is, its appearance is no good news.
