The fantasy of Unicorns

Me searching for unicorn myths was a bit like searching for unicorns themselves. Before you even begin the hunt, you won’t expect to find anything.

The truth is, unlike almost every other mythical creature, the unicorn does not appear anywhere in any culture’s actual mythology. There are no tales of God riding unicorns or legends of unicorns fighting monsters. To put it simply, as far as ancient myths are concerned, there is no such thing as ‘unicorn mythology’.

According to my research, greek scholars actually believed that this creature was real, and that it made its home in India. At the time, India was a little known distant land that was assumed to be magical and mysterious. Fittingly, Unicorn is portrayed to be a magical and mysterious creature with great respect and power.

When looking around for the myths or tales told about the unicorn, I came up with an interesting fact about unicorns which wasn’t mentioned in any of the studies I carried my research on. The fact that they’re the only mythical creature that is not based on human fears.

Unicorns are NOT monsters. Anytime they’re spoken of anywhere, they’re narrated with a respectful tone. I mean, we all know them as strong solitary animals who seek to do good for everyone around them. Never will you ever hear of a Unicorn tale, where the unicorn seems to pose a threat to humans.

It's interesting how the myth of the existence of unicorns is so widespread. Have you noticed that I haven’t even described what a unicorn looks like? I just assumed that you know, because who doesn’t, right!? For a creature that came from nowhere, never really existed, and has no real origin, the myth of the unicorn has lasted an unbelievable amount of time in the imaginations of us humans.
