This ain't no clickbait you guys! You'd find out why by the end of this Blog. Don't @ me if you don't.
Okay so...Do you know what I find really amusing about zombies? Unlike all their monster contemporaries, they are the only ones who are believed to be entirely fictional. And by the way, I’m talking about the undead, flesh-eating types and not the mind-controlled voodoo ones.
You would never hear anyone claiming that they’ve heard a zombie shuffling through the woods, or you will never hear any news on investigators tracking zombie steps from an alleged attack from the night before. Zombies are entirely fictional creatures, at least for the moment...
Whenever a story features zombies, it’s always in an apocalyptic context. Like vampires and werewolves, humans can become zombies from a transfer of body fluids, but unlike vampires and werewolves, few people actually think it would be cool to be turned into a zombie. I mean, would you really want to wander around being the mindless freaks they are?
A zombie apocalypse is largely considered a type of plague, which is why many modern storytellers choose to refer to the plague as a biological virus (like the recent Corona virus).
This is how I would define zombies if you asked me what they actually are.
Zombies don’t think for themselves. Whether they are consumed by rage, a mind-controlling disease, a magic spell, or are simply too dead to reason anymore, zombies CANNOT think for themselves. This is what makes them so scary. There is no reasoning for what they do, no cure to their infection, they don’t get tired, and they certainly don’t stop coming for you no matter what.
Secondly, a zombie's only instinct is to feed off of living flesh; whether the living-dead type or the disease-induced rage type, they only want to kill and to feed. And in my opinion - like a snobby food critic, it only wants the freshest ingredients.
From all the zombie apocalypse related movies I’ve seen, if I was asked to split the zombies into categories, I would group them into two; the fast zombies, or how I’d refer to them as the athletic kind (probably me if I turned into one), and the slow ones, or as I like to believe - the ones that were just as physically unfit being human as they are being zombies.
